New NICE guidance for pain management

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) has issued new guidance today about psychological therapy for pain management. The suggestion that Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) or Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) is as affective as medical based treatment is exciting but not surprising. When undertaking my training around trauma I was intrigued at the evidence that showed psychological pain often manifests as physical pain. Having helped clients work through their physical pain using psychological means I am pleased that this has now been recognised by NICE.
